Writing

Look at the picture and the story starter for, ‘Little House over the Bridge’ (Writing Little House 5.6.20). Continue writing this story focusing on including adverbial phrases, fronted adverbials and direct speech. Who lives in the house? Does someone discover it in the woods? What could be inside the house? Are there strange things going on?

Guided Reading

Read this week’s extract and complete the summary activities (Guided Reading Extract 5.6.20/ Guided Reading Summary 5.6.20). We have also put Year 4’s recommended reading list on the Home Learning page (Year 4 Recommended Books).

Maths

In maths today we will continue to look at the symmetry of shapes. Instead of finding lines of symmetry you will need to think about whether the shapes are symmetrical and, if not, how they can be made symmetrical. You'll be challenged to explain why shapes might be the odd ones out in relation to their lines of symmetry, so you may find some of the following mathematical vocabulary useful: symmetry, vertical, horizontal and diagonal. To help your understanding of horizontal and vertical lines of symmetry have a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4oPWaNxp14
