Good morning and welcome to Monday's home learning! We hope you have all had a lovely weekend.
This home learning is the same as what we will be teaching in school. Should you need to ask any questions or need any support please contact the class teacher on our class email accounts; RHS@ashdeneschool.net or RB@ashdeneschool.net
Guided Reading
This week we are going to be using a book from our new bug club books online! You should have received your child's log in details via email last week, if you haven't please email your child's teacher on the class account email above. To access the bug club website or app, please follow the instructions on our website; http://www.ashdene.cheshire.sch.uk/page/bug-club/74620
Please note; you will notice another book has been allocated on your childs bug club page. This in an independent reading book and has been closely matched to the phonics learning for this week. Please encourage your child to read this indpendently and complete the quizzes at the end.
The guided reading book we will be using this week is called 'The Queen's Plan'
Focus on the front page, read the title and ask; “What do you think this book will be about?”, “The book is called ‘The Queen’s Plan’
Read ‘The Queen’s Plan’ aloud in turns. Encourage children to segment the sounds in each word if needed. Once they have read the sentence, encourage them to reread it without sounding it out, to develop fluency. At page 7 ask “What do you think it means when it says ‘in pain from the Queen’s cooking’?” PREDICTION pause at page 8 – ask children ‘What do you think the Queen’s plan might be?” Don’t continue reading until the task is complete.
Discuss the possibilities of the Queen’s plan. Think about what might be a good plan and what might not be a good plan.
Ask children to draw what draw a picture that represents what they think the Queen’s plan might be. Complete the story once children have finished their predictions.

Maths
All about numbers 11 & 12
ALL – go through the PowerPoints ‘all about 11’ and ‘all about 12’
Green – After looking at the PowerPoint can you find 11 objects from your house or garden? How fast can you collect them, you could time yourself. Once you have your 11 objects, arrange them in lots of different ways – this could be 2 rows of 5 and one on its own, or one big long line of 11. Now do it with 12.
Amber – After going through the PowerPoint re-visit slides 6-8. Now, think about making 11 in lots of different ways! If you have cubes at home, great, or pennies, or any other objects you can arrange in different ways – using 11 objects physically then draw them into your book. For example, you could draw 11 spots all in one long line, or 5 spots, then 6 spots underneath – get creative in showing how you can make 11. Now try with the number 12.
Red – After going through the PowerPoints do the challenges at the end then in your books draw 11 cubes/spots and see how many different ways you can make 11 and write the number sentence underneath using the + and = signs. Now do the same for number 12.

Literacy
This week’s book is ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra.
Using the Supertato PowerPoint, read the very beginning of the story. Explain to the children that they will notice on slide number three (with the vegetables) that there are no words. These have been removed on purpose.
Ask: What do you notice on this page? What do you think has happened to the vegetables? How do you think they’re feeling?
Explain that today’s writing activity is speech bubbles for the vegetables in this part of the story.
Ask: What are speech bubbles? What do they look like? Why do we use them?
If the vegetables could speak what do think they would each say at this point in the story?
Model writing a speech bubble for one of the vegetables, e.g. “Oh no! I have marker pen on my face” for the broccoli.
Green: Write a speech bubble for 2 vegetables
Amber: Write a speech bubble for all 3 vegetables
Red: Write two speech bubbles for each vegetable
