Literacy

This week’s book is called ‘The Everywhere Bear’ by Julia Donaldson.

Watch the whole of the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNp_uSODq60

What would you have done if you found the Everywhere Bear?

What was your favourite part of the story? Why?

How do you think the children felt when they saw the Everywhere Bear in the library?

Have a look at the 3 pictures of the Everywhere Bear (see PDF document). These are pictures of the bear from the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Looking at the pictures, what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story?

How do you think the Everywhere Bear was feeling at each point? Spider diagram these ideas for children to use in their writing.

Explain to the children that they will be writing about how the bear is feeling at each point. You may wish to print the pictures for children to look at and then write underneath. Model using an idea shared, putting the emotion into a sentence. E.g. The bear is feeling loved.

Green: List 2/3 words to describe how the Everywhere Bear is feeling at these 3 points in the story.

e.g. scared

      frightened

Amber: Write 1/2 sentences to describe how the bear is feeling at these 3 points in the story.

e.g. The bear is feeling scared.

Red: Write 2/3 sentences to describe how the Everywhere Bear is feeling at these 3 points in the story.

e.g. The Everywhere Bear is feeling scared.

Guided Reading

Please use 'Is It Quick?' from our new online bug club books. You will need your child's log in details and you can access the website via our link: http://www.ashdene.cheshire.sch.uk/page/bug-club/74620

Share the title with the children again, “Is it Quick?”  Point to the question mark and ask the children what this piece of punctuation is.

Explain that a question mark is used when a question is written down. When you ask a question, you are finding out information and somebody answers you. Tell the children that you are going to ask a question and you want them to think of some questions to ask back.

If possible, partner children up (they must remain at their tables) and they each take it in turn to read a page. Encourage intonation when reading, particularly when they notice are asking questions! Encourage gestures when asking questions.

Play a game of Guess Who, using power point of animals if you want to. Model it first by standing with your back to board and ask questions that children must answer yes or no to.

Is it an animal that was in the book? Is it a quick animal?

Get children to play this game in pairs whilst sitting at tables. One child picks an animal and the other has to try and work out what animal it was by asking questions.

Phonics

Revisit and review:  Recap phase 3 sounds using flashcars on phonics play https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/flashcards-time-challenge

Tricky and high frequency words (see document attached)Read all words. Hide them- how many can you remember? Write or say them aloud.

Teach: What can you see? Look at the sound on the window before playing each slide. Explain that we have to look out for things in the picture that have that sound in. Once they have watched the ‘what can you see’ slide, can they write down what they saw that included that sound. Can you add sound buttons underneath your word?
