Tuesday 12.5.2020

Good morning and welcome to Tuesday's home learning:

Phonics:

Revisit and review: Tricky and high frequency words (see document below)

Have 9 words on the board- children to attempt to read them all in 10 seconds. (see new words)

Teach: Focus on polysyllabic words- explain that these are words with two or more syllables. This means we can almost chop long words into chunks.

Children watch video to help explain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S7DY2lgJlU

Practise: Please see Phonics. Tuesday. Practise Activities for all the below activities –

Green activity Using the powerpoint- read the words for the first 4 slides and draw a picture of them in your book.

Amber activity Read all the words. Can you say each one in a sentence and write them down? Can you write one of your sentences?

Red activity   Read all the words. Can you choose two words and write them into a sentence? Repeat the activity so that your child writes down three sentence. E.g. I have a sandwich in my lunchbox, I have the softest giftbox. There is a chimpanzee on my shelving.

Guided Reading:Please read ‘The Lost Cow’ E book on Oxford Owls Website. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/13018.html

Remember to reread sentences to develop fluency. When you have finished, go back through the pages and ask them to point out the capital letter at the beginning of each sentence and the full stop at the end.

Close the book. In their home learning book can you draw and write a label the insects Nok and Max find in the grass?

Check they remembered all insects- snail, ant and wasp. They can either label each insect or write a sentence for each, for example; ‘Nok and Max see a snail’ ‘Nok and Max see an ant’ ‘Nok and Max see a wasp’.
