Literacy

This week we will be linking our Literacy work to a wonderful story called ‘The Storm Whale’ by Benji Davies.

Please watch/read it together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czczPkmP988

In the story (at 3:07 of the video), Noi and his dad returned the whale back to the sea where it belonged. How do you think Noi felt at this point? If the whale could talk, what do you think it would have said to Noi and his dad?

Have a look at the speech bubble activity PDF attached (see below) and scroll to the RED activity page. What do you think each character in the story would say at this point? Today we would like you to choose the number of speech bubbles to write; for 1 character, for 2 characters or for all 3 characters.

Green: Write a speech bubble for the whale

Amber: Write a speech bubble for the whale and Noi

Red: Write a speech bubble for the whale, Noi and his dad

Maths

Green – Can you make a sandwich today for your lunch…? Make some for your family and cut some into rectangles and some into squares? How about a circle or a triangle?! *Don’t forget to send us some photos of your shape sandwiches!

Amber – How many different shapes are on your lunch plate today? Can you list all the different shapes you see? For example, you might have some circle cucumbers and square sandwiches. Make a list and draw the shape in your book; you could even send us a photo of your plate full of shapes! *(If another meal during the day has more exciting shapes than lunch, please use that one!)

Red – Can you and your parent/parents/carers think of the most ‘shape – filled’ meal and make it today? For example, you may do some circle pancakes, or a lunch with triangle sandwiches and circle cucumbers…or your meals may have some 3D shapes in them. Whatever you decide to make please draw into your books and label the shape names you have on your plate and why not send us a photo of your wonderful creations!
