Welcome to todays home learning!

Guided Reading

To access the book please use your child's log in details sent to you last week via email. To access the Bug Club website and app, please follow the instructions from our school website; http://www.ashdene.cheshire.sch.uk/page/bug-club/74620

This weeks’ book is called 'The Queen's Plan'

Please note; your child will have been allocated another book on their Bug Club page. This is an independent reading book and is closely matched to the phonics learning for this week. Please encourage your child to read this themselves and complete the quiz at the end.

The Queen's Plan

From reading the book yesterday and now looking at the front page ask: “What can we remember about the book from yesterday?” “Can anybody remember what the Queen’s plan was?” “Was it a good plan? Why?”

Recap these sounds to help reading:

Read the book again. Remember to reread sentences to develop fluency.  If children are struggling to follow, encourage them to follow with their finger or provide a lollistick

Look back through the book. How many words can you find that include the oo grapheme? Ask them to write the words down in their home learning books. Organise them into two columns oo (long sound) and oo (short sound). See if they can tell you whether their oo word has the short or long vowel sound themselves as they share them with you.

Phonics

Maths

All about numbers 15 & 16

*All - Go through the PowerPoints for 15 & 16

Green – Draw number block 10 into your book, how many more do you need to add to make 15? How many more do you need to make 16? Draw numberblock 10 in a tall tower in your book and then the number block that goes with it to make the two teen numbers. Can you label your drawings with the correct number? (A picture of the numberblocks is attached for you to copy)

Amber – Which numberblock double makes 16? Is it double 4 or double 8? Draw them in your book to find out.

Red – Mrs Henderson thinks that double 7 add 1 is 15 is she correct? How could you find this out? (think about drawing the number blocks in your book and counting them all!) What does double 8 make?

Literacy

This week’s book is ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra.

Have a look at ‘Wanted’ posters from yesterday. Ask: Why did we make Wanted posters? Who were they about? Who were they for?

Read/watch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlaMeNmTG6c) the story up to where Supertato is falling into the freezer. Ask: Up to now, what do we know about Supertato? What about Evil Pea? What do you think is going to happen to Supertato now?

Explain to the children that, somehow, we need to help Supertato to escape from the freezer. Ask: How could we help Supertato to escape? You may want to make mind-map/spider diagram of these ideas that are shared.

Write the following example together: I would throw a rope into the freezer. Supertato can climb up the rope.

Green: Write 2/3 ways to help Supertato escape from the freezer

Amber: Write 3/4 ways to help Supertato escape from the freezer.

Red: Write 3/4 ways to help Supertato escape, giving extra information about how he would get out (see the example above).

Don’t forget to look at the sentence checklist!

Once you have finished your writing, you can draw a picture to match the ways to escape.
