Domestic Abuse

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 defines domestic abuse as:

“Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.”

Abuse can be perpetrated by partners, ex-partners and family members, including children under the age of 18, adult children or siblings. It may include one or more of the following: physical or sexual abuse; violent or threatening behaviour; controlling or coercive behaviour; economic abuse; psychological, emotional and other forms of abuse.

If you are a victim of domestic abuse, or you are worried about a friend, call the free-phone National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.

If you are worried about the impact of domestic violence on any children in the home, you can also contact Cheshire East Consultation Service (ChECS) on 0300 123 5012 (option 3). You do not need to give your name if you wish to remain anonymous.
